One of the four types defined in the W.I.L.A. Mountain. Independent operators do not like being subordinate to anyone else and often have the attitude that no one can do it better than them. Consequently, they only make money when they are working and operating their business. This means they don’t own a business; they own a job. Often, they are subject matter experts such as physicians, attorneys, accountants, web designers, plumbers, consultants etc. These jobs usually require schooling and some form of government certification. When independent operators need more money, they look for more hours they can bill.
